the new guests

Nana and Papaw have a little guest house right off their bedroom. Little. As in tee-tiny. And Papaw didn't even have to build it! The couple staying there built it themselves, and decided to have children! Three in fact, but it looks as though one of them just wasn't meant to be. Meet the new babies and Mother Robin, who just brought back some lunch.

And a post wouldn't be complete without a little Photoshop Phun. Oh, that's too hard to read, isn't it? Photoshop Fun. There.

And yes, Robin (not to be confused with mother Robin above) I DO have a son. I promise. It's just that he's getting too cool to want to go to parks to have his picture taken! Actually, his allergies are in full swing, so he stays inside as much as possible. Unless his friends are all out playing basketball, then he'll suffer. But going with Mom, Dad and Sophia to a park for pictures? Then we hear, "But my allergies!"

rainy and damp

Today was rainy and damp so I thought I'd revisit our day trip we took recently that was rainy and damp... Clever, huh? Nana and Papaw were with us on this one, and Papaw and Isaac were up to their usual tricks and acts of danger. You'd think we'd learn to keep them apart. Even Sophia joined in and was petting coyotes.

beauty and the beasts

Today was a beautiful day at the zoo!

Not sure if I totally like this one below. Does she look like she's eating it?

Not the best pose, but she's still cute!

Don't want your picture taken, Boy? DROP and give me 20!

where the roses never fade

Remember my beautiful birthday roses? They were BEAUTIFUL. They opened up and lasted longer than I thought they would. They did eventually start to fade and dry up, and the day I finally threw them away I couldn't stop singing,

I am going to a city
Where the streets with gold are laid

I am going to a city

Where the roses never fade.

Granny is already there waiting for us. She went home 11 years ago today. Isaac
only knew her for a short one and a half years, and Sophia never got to meet her.
We love and miss you, and we'll see you soon, Granny!

not yet, please not yet!

"Shh, listen! I think I hear the ice cream truck! MOM! Pleeease, can I get an ice cream?! It's a once in a lifetime and I think it's coming!" (eyes darting wildly about while trying to listen intently)

No ice cream truck came, as much as she thought she heard it. It's barely spring, for crying out loud. Give the kids one warm day and they're ready to jump in the kiddie pool and beg for expensive treats from that annoying yellow truck that knows our street has the most kids in the whole subdivision.

And did you happen to catch the sky on fire the other night as the sun set?
Sophia was sweet enough to run in and get me and tell me to bring my camera!

summer breeze makes me feel fine

So it's not officially summer yet, and this is a little more than a "breeze" as we were driving down the road, but we were all feeling fine today with the gorgeous weather! Even our pear trees in the front yard are blooming for the first time in about 3 years!

Goldilocks

Nothing like finally getting to go to bed at 1:25am after a long day and find
someone's been sleeping in my bed and she's still here.

spring dream

Craig took some time off this week so I called "SPRING BREAK!!" In 7 years of homeschooling we've never had a spring break. At least not an official one. We've had plenty of spring vacations, so I'm not exactly complaining. It's just weird to be home and not doing school! And of course, we had to go somewhere, so we took a day trip and did some hiking and picture taking. We can't believe we haven't been going here every spring. Look how pretty! We hiked a creek to a big waterfall, but there were smaller waterfalls along the way, along with many other photo ops.
No, this isn't from the Juice Bar at Whole Foods... it's moss (and ?) growing on a log. I could have stayed here for an hour. Loved this log. The kids weren't so enamored (imagine that).
There was no trail to follow. We literally scrambled over rocks as we hiked the creek toward the falls. Amazingly, only Sophia got one foot wet. Still not sure how we managed to stay dry!

We had such a good time, we decided to go back today! In the rain! Nana and Papaw went this time, too. Will try to get some of those pictures up soon.

Here's a short, 26 second clip of the falls.
